If you liked the movie Brubaker starring Robert Redford

If you liked the movie Brubaker starring Robert Redford, you will love Brushy Mountain Maximum Security. The author narrates how it is to serve as a counselor behind the walls of this Tennessee Prison. Encounters with notorious criminals, including the legendary James Earl Ray (alleged killer of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.) prove to be insightful and on some occasions humorous. Profanity is very much a part of the story line and the dialogue would be less impactful without it and would diminish the realities associated with the interactions between the parties. The book is an easy read and much is revealed regarding how many of the prisoners ended up incarcerated. The narrator proves to be compassionate and caring counselor who overcame an environment of distrust to win the confidence of some of these hardened criminals. The reader will discover that his insights proved to be invaluable to the administration at Brushy. Kudos to George Reischling.

I never knew about some of the things that went on in a so-called "Maximum Security" prison. This was a short book, but packed full of stories, people and incidents that, to me seem unnecessary and very risky in some situations. George did a good job revealing, what seemed to be, an un-biased description of a rather strange community behind the prison walls.

Fantastic book. It's very interesting to see what maximum security prisons are like from the perspective of someone who was actually working there. This is a great, un-biased account and an awesome read! I would recommend it to anyone. Great job, George! I would highly recommend it!
